ANN Early Career Workshop- University of Technology, Sydney

The Australian Nanotechnology Network (ANN) will be holding an Early Career Workshop in Sydney on July 10-11th, 2014 (Thursday and Friday) at the

Guthrie theatre, building 6, level 3,  University of Technology Sydney, City Campus.

As in previous years the aim of this workshop is to provide a forum for early career researchers (ECRs)* and postgraduate students working on nanotechnology research to present their work, meet other researchers and students, and interact with other research groups in Australia. This year there will be included a Scientific Writing workshop.

(* ECR generally defined as within 5 years of award of Ph.D. degree or 8 years due to career interruptions)

Workshop Details

The workshop will consist of 24 talks of 15 minutes duration,  poster session, a panel discussion, and networking opportunities. The presentations will be from Australian ECRs and postgraduate students, along with four keynote talks by more senior speakers.

A/Prof Heike Ebendorff-Heiderpriem - The University of Adelaide

A/Prof Fu Lan - Australian National University - Nanostructure solar cells based on III-V semiconductor materials

Dr Danielle Kennedy -  CSIRO

Workshop  Registration

Attendance is open to all staff, postgraduate, and undergraduate students at Australian research institutions, centres, and organisations (Universities, CSIRO, DSTO, industry, etc.). Preference will be given to ECRs, postgraduate students, and ANN members.

There will be no registration fee for attendance at the workshop, however all participants are asked to register for catering purposes. In the event you register and are unable to attend, we ask that you cancel your registration to give others an opportunity to attend.

All registrants will receive a conference pack with the main program and all abstracts in electronic format and have access to all sessions, morning/afternoon teas, lunches, and dinner on Thursday night.

Travel Support

Travel support will be provided to postgraduate students and Early Career Researchers selected to present at the workshop. This is expected to be in the range from $200-$500 depending on the distance required to travel from home institution to Sydney and proposed budget (see details on ‘Accommodation’ below). Presenters can apply for travel support once notification of acceptance of abstract is received by utilising the registration form.



All presenting postgraduate students and Early Career Researchers will be provided with free accommodation.

All workshop  participants will have access to wireless internet at the venue. Login procedures will be provided in the conference pack. Alternatively, participants could also utilise ‘eduroam’ ( ) validated by their home institution login details. It is recommended that users setup ‘eduroam’ at their home institution first for ease of access.
