Travel Grants to attend Workshops, Conferences, Summer and Winter Schools, Short courses
Eligibility
- postgraduate student or early career researcher currently studying/working in Australia in the area of nanotechnology
- member of ARCNN
- attending a ARCNN sponsored event
- documented support from Supervisor, notification of acceptance of participation or acceptance of oral/poster paper
- Hardship limits
- Cases of hardship and exceptional circumstances will be considered by the ARCNN Management Committee for possible funding outside the guidelines. Applicants need to make a convincing case of their special circumstances/hardship requiring special consideration.
Funding available
- up to $1,000 for travel, registration and accommodation to a location within Australia preferred that funding support from other sources has already been approved, eg. home university, other granting body
- no more than 1 travel grant per person per year
- Deadline for submission of request is two (2) months before the event
Successful applicants
- must acknowledge funding support from ARCNN and ARC in any publications that result from the event
- must provide ARCNN with a written report of the outcomes of the activity within 1 month of completion of the activity
Payment of funding support will be made as a reimbursement to the Institution that incurs the initial costs. The institution is requested to issue a tax invoice to The Australian National University, attach copies of the original invoices/documentation of costs incurred, and send to ARCNN.

Guidelines for Funding
In order for a Travel grant to be approved the application must satisfy the listed criteria. Additionally, where it is necessary to rank applications, because the requested funds exceed those available, this ranking will be done on the basis of which applications best satisfy the listed criteria. There is no appeals process. The decisions made by the ARCNN management committee, informed by the recommendation of the ARCNN Events Working Group will be final.
Selection Criteria that will be used to evaluate applications
- For attendance at an ARCNN sponsored event
- Paper /Poster accepted for presentation
- Demonstrated potential/excellence in field - priority given to applicants with highest merit/relevance
- Research topic in field of nanotechnology
- For Summer and Winter Schools and Short courses - Acceptance of enrolment is sufficient
