Dr. Lu is a professor and chairman in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rutgers University. His group has grown high quality ZnO and MgxZn1-xO epitaxial films on r-plane sapphire and single crystal nanotips on various substrates using MOCVD. His group has demonstrated various new ZnO devices, including Schottky diodes, optically addressed high contrast and high speed UV light modulators, high speed UV photodetectors, nano-SAW biosensors, wireless UV detectors, nano-ZnO/GaN LEDs with high light extraction efficiency, transparent thin film transistors (TTFT), ZnO nanostructure-based dye sensitized solar cells, monolithically integrated tunable SAW (MITSAW) chips, and high frequency passive components for telecommunications and sensors. He has over 180 refereed articles, 200 conference presentations and 15 U.S. patents. Dr. Lu has served as a co-organizer or international advisory committee member for many ZnO-related conferences.
