His research interests are focusing on neuroscience and nano-bio science based on receptor protein. He established a unique collaboration for nano-bio research with Univ. Oxford from 2004. NTT BRL Europe was settled in Univ. Oxford.

He received the B.E., M.E and Ph. D degrees in instrumentation engineering from Keio University, Yokohama in 1980, 1982 and 1986, respectively. In 1986, he joined NTT Basic Research Laboratories and worked in the bio-computer project. From 1986 to 1987, he studied neurophysiology at the Lab. of Physiol., Faculty of Medicine, the Univ. of Tokyo as a guest researcher. For the year 1990-1991, he was a visiting researcher at the NINDS, NIH and studied GABA physiology. From 2005-2006, he was a guest lecturer at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine. He is now a Visiting Prof. in Physics at University of Oxford from 2005. He was a guest Profs. of CASIOC and CASHIPS from 2006-2009. From 2009, he is also a Visiting Professor of Institute for Frontier Medical Sciences at Kyoto University. He is an associate editor of IEE proceedings of nanobiotechnology from 2006 and IET Bionanotechnology from 2007. Vice chair of Japan Nanomedicine Society (from 2006) and other society committee member including funding agency. He received SLOW-MAG award (2002), best poster award (2008) in GRC and several other poster awards.
