Nanotechnology - big business in Queensland

The Queensland Government is serious about investing in nanotechnology research and development infrastructure and supporting research that provides benefits for business, the environment and society.

Since 2007, the Queensland Government has funded nanotechnology projects worth over $7 million. These projects include the 'nanopatch' needleless vaccine delivery system, and funding for the Queensland-China Alliance in nanomaterials for clean energy technologies.

The Government is further investing in the future of nanotechnology in Queensland by:

  • providing innovation support for businesses intending to incorporate nanotechnology into products or processes
  • assisting technology diffusion to encourage research commercialisation that meets industry needs
  • raising awareness of nanotechnology, its potential applications and the practical benefits to the wider community
  • partnering with the Australian Nanotechnology Alliance, a Queensland-based, national network encouraging collaboration between industry and research, in Australia and overseas.
